* The Missouri Black Powder Society will sponsor a Missouri Hunter Education course on Aug. 7 and 8. This is a two-day, 14-hour course. The session on Saturday, Aug. 7 will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday's session will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. The training will include: gun safety; information about firearms and ammunition; wildlife management and conservation; and a hunter's responsibility to the landowner, wildlife and the environment. Those successfully completing the course will receive a Missouri Conservation Heritage card with hunter education certification from the Missouri Department of Conservation. In Missouri, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1967, must present proof of hunter education training in order to purchase any type of Missouri hunting permit. Certification is limited to students 11 or older. Pre-registration for the course is required, and class size is limited to 60 students. For further information or to register, contact Larry D. * A Purdy Lady Eagle volleyball camp for junior high and high school girls will be held July 19 through July 22 at Purdy High School. The high school session will take place from 8 to 9:45 a.m., and the junior high session will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. The cost is $6 for the camp T-shirt. * The Aurora Chamber of Commerce four-person scramble golf tournament will be held on Saturday, July 31 at 8 a.m. at Honey Creek Golf Club on Highway K north of Aurora. Entries are currently be accepted with a fee of $240 per four-member team. This includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, closest to the pin contest and long drive contest. Lunch will be provided for all participants. * The Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce will host its annual youth baseball tournament on Saturday, July 24. The tournament will include the following divisions: ages 7 and 8; coach pitch for ages 9 and 10; kid pitch for ages 11 and 12 and 14 and under.
