Crash outside Monett kills Pierce City man

Friday, June 18, 2010

A two-vehicle crash just outside Monett at 7:35 a.m. yesterday proved fatal for a Pierce City man.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Eugene Wrobleski, 81, of Pierce City, was eastbound in a 1993 Chevrolet on Highway 37 approaching the Monett city limits. At the same time, Julie Butler, 29, of Monett, crossed the intersection at Eisenhower and Highway 37, headed south in a 2005 Chevrolet. The Butler vehicle pulled into the path of the Wrobleski vehicle, causing the collision. Wrobleski continued east, ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Wrobleski was taken to St. John's Hospital in Joplin, where he was pronounced dead. Butler was not reported injured and was wearing a safety belt.
