Police in Monett busy on Click it or Ticket

Thursday, June 17, 2010

The Monett Police Department participated in the national "Click It or Ticket" mobilization conducted May 24 to June 6.

According to Sergeant Dennis Camp, Monett officers issued a total of 96 traffic summons and warnings. There were 11 summons issued for drivers or passengers not wearing seat belts and two summons issued for children not restrained by safety devices.

"Seat belts save lives," said Police Chief Tim Schweder. "Seat belts are your best defense if you are involved in a crash. I am continually amazed at the number of young people that fail to buckle up and the number of parents who do not put their children in safety seats. We continue to encourage drivers to buckle up and to buckle up their children, so everyone can arrive alive."

Funding for Monett's participation in the program was provided through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Division. The program was held in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Missouri Safety Center.
