Amy Lee Matthews Butler, age 35, of Killeen, Texas, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died in her home on Tuesday, June 8, 2010.
She was born on May 8, 1975 in Kansas City to Glen and Karen Matthews. Amy grew up in Mt. Vernon. She attended Mt. Vernon Elementary and Middle school and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. She attended Missouri State University, graduating cum laude and received a master's degree in speech and language pathology. She recently received a master's of business administration from Texas A&M University at the Killeen Campus.
In addition to her parents, Amy is survived by her beloved brother: Dan Matthews and his wife, Ama and their children, Lauren and Landon Matthews of Raymore.
Amy was a team leader of pediatric rehabilitation of the Metrokids Clinic in Killeen, serving children with speech, language and hearing needs. She also worked with patients at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.
A gathering of friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 at the Fellowship Hall of Ozark Prairie "Brick" Church, located north of Mt. Vernon. Friends and family who would like to come and share a remembrance of Amy's life are invited.
In honor of her wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that those who wish may make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Program. Amy volunteered many hours in support of deployed soldiers and military families and received Armed Services YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award for 2009.
