Despite taking an early 1-0 lead against McDonald County American Legion Post 392, Monett's Post 118 team absorbed a 3-1 loss at the Carl Junction tournament on Friday night.
Monett touched starter Alex Arntfield early. Carlin Bailey walked in the first inning, advanced two bases on a Doug Aldridge single, and then scored when Colby Brown hit a fielder's choice ground ball. The RBI gave Post 118 the early lead, but it was the only run the Monett team would score.
The McDonald County lineup returned the favor in the second inning. Monett's Bailey pitched out of a serious jam, allowing only one run after filling the bases. Trent Cook's RBI tied the game at 1-1.
The game slipped away from the Monett team when Mac County scored in both the third and the sixth inning. One run crossed in both stanzas, and Monett could muster no offense in the late innings, and lost 3-1.
