PIERCE CITY -- Energy is in abundance with the arrival of Chelsea Holmes, who was named basketball coach last month for the varsity Lady Eagles.

Holmes comes from Joplin's McAuley High School, where she served as athletic director and, softball and track coach. At Pierce City, she replaces Marty Reinhart, who went to East Newton.

Holmes was a prep star at Rogers, Ark., before going on to play collegiate ball at Crowder College in Neosho and William Jewell College in Kansas City.

Taking the helm at Pierce City has Holmes excited by the possibilities. With a batch of returning players, including a trio of front court gals standing 5'11," it's a matter of finding a sharp point guard to run the show.

"This is a very athletic team," said Holmes. "We'll be uptempo. My style is encouraging but very intense. Conditioning is one of the most important things."

In the throes of summer camps, the girls are already refining their set shots.

Holmes will be teaching business classes at Pierce City High School.
