Hazel Pearl Maples, age 84, of Aurora, passed away at 11:35 a.m. on June 6, 2010 at her home.
She was born on May 29, 1926 in Galena, the daughter of Karl and Irene (Lebow) Lawrence. Hazel was a charter member of the Wilson Avenue Baptist Church of Aurora. On Sept. 7, 1946 she married James Orvil Maples in Aurora. They endured a loving 61 years of marriage and he preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2007.
Those surviving her includes: four daughters: Helen Woods and her husband, Sonny, and Linda Starbuck, both of Marionville; Betty Powers and her husband, Mick, and Donna Howlett and her husband, Tom, of Aurora; one son: Orvil Maples and his wife, Vickey, of Aurora; two sisters: Chloe Powell and Carol Long, both of Aurora; three brothers: Richard Lawrence and Jack Lawrence, of Aurora, and Jim Lawrence, of Golden, Missouri; 12 grandchildren: Brian Woods, Debra Terry, Shelly Phillips, Stanley Ray Newberry, Jim Powers, Robby Powers, Amy Butler, Kim Breedlove, K.J. Howlett, Erica Maples, Cassidy Maples and Mikayla Maples; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, grandson: Bradley Newberry; brother: Joe Lawrence; two sisters: Ruby Hill and Iona Robinson and son-in-law: Carl Starbuck, also preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, with burial at the Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation was held on June 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donation may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
