Shoeboxes for Soldiers extended

Friday, June 4, 2010

Due to the success of the Shoeboxes for Soldiers drive in the Monett area, the organization has granted our area an extension to the deadline.

The new deadline for boxes is Monday by 5 p.m. Donations are to be dropped off at the National Guard Armory in Pierce City or in Monett, The Monett Times or participating churches. The organization has asked that any participating churches bring the boxes that they have collected to the armory on Monday.

A collection and donation point will be set up at Walmart today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then from 3 to 7 p.m. this evening. Lists of items for the soldiers will be available upon request.

Anyone wishing to personalize their box with stickers, or drawings on the Priority Mailbox may do so. Those who are on a limited budget, but wish to participate may write a letter to a soldier, thanking them for their service.

Letters will need to be delivered to The Monett Times by Friday June 11. The organization wishes to thank all who have participated in the collection drive.
