John E. "Jack" Clotfelter, age 90, of Monett, MO, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2010 in his home.
|Jack was born on February 9, 1920 in Mazie, OK, the son of Norvel P. and Mattie (Walters) Clotfelter. In 1931, Jack and his family moved to Monett. He was a 1937 graduate of the Monett High School and later graduated from the Monett Junior College. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Air Force and had spent two and a half years of his service in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Jack's World War II memories and war diary are archived in the veteran's history project at the Smithsonian.||Jack was a member and a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Monett. He retired as a tool and die maker with Roderick Arms and Tool in Monett and later operated a roof truss business. Jack was an avid fisherman who at 80 years old went on a fishing trip to Canada. He also taught Sunday school at Lacoba Homes for over 20 years, was a frequent contributor to world charities involving children and world hunger, and enjoyed planting trees.|
|On April 21, 1946 in Hart, MO, Jack Clotfelter and Mary R. Sreaves were united in marriage. They were blessed with over 64 years of memories. She survives. Additional survivors include three daughters: Ruth Camenisch and husband Gary of Monett, MO; Martha Willoughby and husband Garry of Monett, MO; and Jonna Tidwell and husband Larry of Pierce City, MO; one brother: Jim Clotfelter and his wife Judy, of Dutton, MT; six grandchildren: Holly McGehee and husband, Mark, of Nixa, MO; Autumn Dawn Caraway and husband, Jason, of Shiloh, Ill.; Christopher Willoughby and wife, Debbi, of Monett; Joy Balmas and husband, Lawrence, of Monett; Jennifer Nichole Tidwell, of Pierce City, MO; and Kenneth Tidwell, of Pierce City; two step-grandchildren: Julie Lee and husband, Matt, of Monett; and Lori Galloway, and husband, Tyler, of Overland Park, KS; five great-grandchildren: Ben McGehee, of Nixa; Jackson Willoughby, of Monett; Jewelia Willoughby, of Monett; Hannah Caraway, of Shiloh, Ill.; and Liam Caraway, of Shiloh; five step-great-grandchildren: Heather Moennig and husband, Justin, of Pierce City; Brittany Young, of Pierce City; Maddy Lee, of Monett; Grace Lee, of Monett; and Murphy Galloway, of Overland Park, KS; and two step-great-great grandchildren: Payton Moennig, of Pierce City; and Carson Moennig, of Pierce City; and a host of nieces and nephews.||Jack was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul Clotfelter at birth and Clyde Clotfelter in 1962.|
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been requested to World Vision in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home.
