Mr. Armond Kirk Carlin, 85, of Monett, passed away May 29, 2010 at Monett Health Care. He was born January 12, 1925 to Armond Sidney and Sibyl Lois (Browning) Carlin south of Monett, Mo. He was united in marriage to Mary Frances Black September 18, 1949 in Monett, Mo.
Kirk attended Monett High School graduating Class of 1942, and then volunteered for the Navy from November 10, 1943 to May of 1946. He served as a Radioman Third Class, SV6 USNR, and served in the South Pacific. After returning home he attended Monett Jr. College 1946-1947 and the University of Mo, Columbia in 1948.
Through his life Mr. Carlin was a member of several organizations, the United Methodist Church since 1951; a Worthy Grand Patron, Order of the Eastern Star, Missouri-1982; General Grand Chapter, O.E.S. Chr. ESTARL (Eastern Star Training Award Religious Leaders) 1989-2001; Ancient and Accepted Freemason 3-21-1954; Scottish Rite of Freemasonay, Joplin 5-20-1972; Abou Ben Adhem Shrine; Springfield 11-19-1973; Past Master, Masonic Pierce City 1978 and 1984; joined Order of the Easter Star Pierce City 1970; Past Patron Order of the Eastern Star, Pierce City 1973, 1975, 1976, 1992 and 1993; Past President, Sheppard of the Hills Scottish Rite Club, Lawrence Co. Mo.; Past President Kiwanis Club, Pierce City; Past President Chamber of Commerce, Pierce City; and work 16 years with Boy Scouts, 6 years as Scoutmaster, Pierce City.
Kirk had was a farmer and held several positions including: manager at Friend Tire Co. in Chillicothe, Mo from 1957-1960; Meek Lumber Co 1961 till 1969 as manager at Lockwood and Springfield locations; and the owner of Carlin Lumber Co from 1969 through 1983. In 1986, Kirk was asked by Meek's Lumber Co. to help open the new store in Monett and remained working there full time until 1993 and finally retired in 1998. During retirement, Mary and Kirk lived at the old homestead SW of Monett and were able to travel extensively until 2008.
Mr. Carlin is survived by his wife along with two sons: Richard and wife Debbie of Springdale, Ark. and Roger of Monett; one brother: Hassell Carlin; three sisters: Barbara Sagehorn, Avonell Avondet and Margaret McCaffery and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carlin was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Curtis Carlin.
Memorial donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church, the ESTARL program or Meals on Wheels.
Masonic and Eastern Star services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. with visitation to follow from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, 2010 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Monett, 1600 N. Central, Monett, Mo. with Rev Clif Crockett officiating.
