Monett pool is now open

Friday, May 28, 2010

The Monett Municipal Pool officially opens today, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. A crew of 34 lifeguards are trained and ready to man the facility, which is located in Monett's South Park.

The pool is managed by the Monett Area YMCA who contracts with the city for the service. Jeramy Kee serves as aquatics program director, and Charles LaGarce is the Monett pool manager. Jill Kaiser serves as manager of the Pierce City pool, which the Monett Y also manages.

The Monett pool is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Lap swim is available from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Lanes must be reserved for lap swim.

Daily admission to the pool is $3 and free to YMCA members. Family season passes are available for $175 and individual season passes cost $70. Lap swim is $1 per visit.

Monett YMCA members also have free access to the Pierce City and Cassville pools but must present their membership card with bar code at the front gate.

The pool is also available for private rental. The cost is $90 per hour. The price includes three lifeguards and one additional staff member to help supervise up to 50 swimmers. If the group is larger than 50, one additional guard per 25 swimmers will be required. The cost for each additional guard is $12 per hour.

The summer 2010 schedule also includes a full offering of swim lessons for all ages. Participants are grouped together based on their age and ability level. Swim lessons are offered during the following four sessions: Session 1, June 7 through June 17; Session II, June 21 through July 1; Session III, July 5 through July 15; and Session IV, July 19 through July 29.

Water aerobics is also offered at the Monett pool. Classes, which are held at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, are designed to improve joint and muscle flexibility, balance, coordination and strength.

For more information about the pool and any of the aquatic programs offered, call the Monett Area YMCA at 235-8213 or the Monett Pool at 235-3250.
