A Purdy teenager has been charged with felony manslaughter following a fatal car crash that claimed the life of a Fairview teenager.
Sierra N. Wood, 17, was arrested on Sunday morning on charges of manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, no drivers license and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Wood was the driver of a car that ran off Highway 76 two miles west of Cassville and overturned at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. Jessica Pettingill, 17, was a passenger in the vehicle, and she was ejected. Pettingill was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:40 a.m. by Barry County Coroner Jim Fohn.
Another passenger in the car, Ronald R. Torrey, 18, of Wheaton, was not injured in the crash.
As required by state law, Wood was tested for blood alcohol content following the crash.
The Patrol report indicated that Pettengill and Torrey were not wearing their seat belts and Wood was.
Other traffic crashes
A Colorado man was seriously injured Sunday evening in a car-motorcycle crash on Highway 76 seven miles east of Cassville.
|According to the Patrol, John P. Reed, 28, of Westminster, Colo., was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield after the motorcycle he was riding crossed the centerline and struck a car driven by David C. Jones, 40, of Bentonville, Ark., head on.||Jones was not injured and was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred at 6:45 p.m., according to the Patrol report.|
