Plans for the 45th Barry County Youth Camp are complete. The week-long event will be held June 1 through June 4 at Camp Smokey in Roaring River State Park.
Over 100 children are signed up to attend the camp, according to Shirley Bass, co-chairman. Bus service is available from Monett, Purdy and Cassville. Pick-up points and times are included in the accompanying chart.
Co-directors at the camp this year are Sarah Davis and Sarah Pfitzner. Cooks are Greg Davis, Bob Mareth and Melvin Casper. Sandy Pfitzner will serve as camp nurse, and Paige McCullough will be craft director. Bass and Jane James are co-chairmen.
The camp theme is "Scientific Adventures: Exploring Scientific Opportunities through Barry County Youth Camp."
Campers, who come from all across Barry County, will experience numerous activities including crafts, games, hiking, swimming, educational field trips and special sessions on safety, peer pressure and cooperation with others.
The climax of the camp will be carnival night. The children will enjoy booths offering ring toss, and a shooting gallery.
Each year the camp is in need of towels, wash cloths, sheets, blankets and clothing for the campers, as well as the time of anyone who can volunteer their assistance before, during and after the camp. Those wishing to make donations, or to volunteer can call 235-3929.
