Friday, May 21, 2010

Monett High School speech and debate students have enjoyed a very successful year of competition. A large group of students qualified for the state speech tournament by earning top finishes at districts, and then three of Monett's state qualifiers brought home medals.

State finalists included Brit Isbell, who placed fourth in Lincoln Douglas Debate, and Chelsea Ash and Theresa Mangler, who finished eighth in duet acting. In advancing to state, Isbell, Ash and Mangler were district champions in their events.

Other Monett students who qualified for state were: Reece Johnson, radio speaking, third place; Bill Townsend, original oratory, district champion; Mikayla Bennett, poetry, third place; Bobby Mobley, prose, third place; Jacques duPlessis, dramatic interpretation, district champion; and Carley Tilley, storytelling, district champion.
