Missing teammates and event finishes falling just short of advancement to the sectionals compounded a day of frustration for the Cubs.
Sixteen teams competed in the Class 3, District 6 championship with the top-four finishers qualifying for the sectionals on Saturday.
Host Carl Junction won the girls' competition, followed by West Plains.
The Lady Cubs finished in fourth place and had Monett's only gold medalists. Jennifer Frazier put the shot an inch shy of 36 feet, and the 4x400 relay team of Sara Hammond, Raigan Ratliff, Emily Fulton and Sophie Fulton finished first with a time of 4:13.60.
Other sectional qualifiers were third place finishers Emily Fulton in the 400-meter run and freshman Raigan Ratliff in the 800-meter race. Fourth place finishers were Hammond in the 300 hurdles and the 4x200 relay team of Katie Upchurch, Ratliff, Hammond and Emily Fulton.
The boys finished eighth and will send three athletes to the sectionals. Cody Mahl finished third in the pole vault, soaring to a personal best of 12 feet. Jason Obermann thew the shot put 44'4" for a third place finish in his event, and Beau Bounous tossed the discus, 126'11" for fourth.
West Plains won the boys' competition, followed by McDonald County.
Monett's sectional will be staged at Marshfield on Saturday.
