Bike and board contest to support Monett skate park

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Skateboarders and BMX bikers have a champion for their activity in Kevin Eaton. An original in the wheels--depriving-gravity scene before Monett's skate park opened at the North Park Sports Complex ten years ago, Eaton is staging a contest on May 15 to fund new surfaces for the ramps and to stoke new interest in the sport.

With partial funding from the city's parks and recreation division, Eaton is determined to update the friendly, open-air facility with resin sheeting for the ramps and perhaps a future reconfiguration of the park.

The event offers the chance to discover an alternative to team sport and video games.

The debut contest will be held at 10:00 a.m. Prizes will be contributed by apparel and equipment suppliers.

The bike and board categories will have beginner and advanced competitions, with some experienced enthusiasts expected to come from all over the region.

Entry requires a fee of $10. Entry forms and other information can be obtained from promoter Kevin Eaton at 417 489 2093 or by email at kevinlouiseaton@yahoo.com
