Heavy rains over the past weekend forced a shut down for planting around the state. Farmers have been running at record setting pace over the last two weeks compared to the last two years, which have been difficult to stay the least. Currently the corn planting is even running ahead of normal pace. Wheat condition is very poor throughout the state with some farmers even turning it under due to lack of hope in yield potential. Hay harvest is drawing very near and farmers are eager to replenish hay supplies with much of the corn planting nearly complete in some southern areas first cuttings of alfalfa will likely be put on the ground as soon as the weather man will predict the next dry spell. The supply of hay is light, demand moderate, and prices steady. Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers.
