Missouri Weekly Hay Summary - Week ending 04/23/2010

Farmers have been running full speed with the extended dry spell trying to 
get crops planted. Much progress has been made planning and for the first 
time in several years progress is actually running ahead of the average. First 
cutting of alfalfa should begin in just a matter of days in the southeast 
part of the state to kick of the 2010 haying season and farmers are eager to 
rebuild supplies and hoping to produce some high quality hay which has been 
hard to do the last couple of seasons. The supply of hay is light, demand 
moderate, and prices steady. Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay

ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales prices listed as round 
bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs)
