Area spring sports round-up
The Purdy Eagles visited Jasper Monday and won, 7-5. Pitcher Riley Veith went into the sixth inning, striking out nine. Landon Terry threw the final two outs for the save.
At the plate, Kevin Miller drove in runs as usual, scoring three. Utilityman Daniel Burnside got two hits, including a double.
Purdy stands at 7-5 on the year and played its second conference game last night at McAuley. Results at press time weren't available.

Wayne Joe Sooter turned in a fabulous performance in seven innings, throwing 13 strikeouts.
The Monett Cubs track team was third with 70 points at Carl Junction on Monday, trailing Vinita (143) and Webb City (126.5).

Third place winners were: Matt Hinkle, 100 dash; Renteria, 1,600 run; Jacob Murphy, 300 hurdles; 4x200 relay: Homfeldt, Hinkle, Cody, Privett; and 4x800 relay: Townsend, Miller, Weber, Renteria.
The Cubs travel to Lamar on Thursday.
