Missouri Weekly Hay Summary - Week ending 04/16/2010

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Farmers have been running hard preparing and planting crops as soils warm up
and dry out. Not only in MO but across several states in the mid west many
acres of crops have been planted as nearly everyone has got started at the
same time. This has lead to many reports of temporary shortages in NH3 and
as a result of that, even shortages in a few cases of dry fertilizer. Not all
farmers in the state have turned out to grass quite yet but amounts of hay
being fed are dwindling fast and in just a few short weeks farmers in the
southeast will begin cutting the first cutting of alfalfa. The supply of hay
is light, demand moderate, and prices steady. Missouri Department of
Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To
be listed, or for a directory, visit, http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory
