Monett golfers came away from the Cassville tournament Thursday with a third-place finish amongst many district opponents, with a team score of 347. Host Cassville won it with a 337, followed by Webb City at 341. Twelve teams competed.
Cub sophomore Jacob Fair posted the lowest score of the day at 79. Teammates Devin Steward and Kennon Cox each had 88.
At the Big Eight Conference Match at Mt. Vernon on Tuesday, the Cubs won with a 154 in the relentless wind. Jacob Fair led with a 35, followed by Steward's 41 and Cox's 43.
Next up for Monett is the Bolivar tournament on Monday.
Pierce City started their season Tuesday at Twin Hill in Joplin. Host Thomas Jefferson won the nine-hole match with a 157, College Heights had 163 and Pierce City was third, at 182.
Garrett Garmon posted a 48 for the Eagles, followed by the debut of TJ Wright and Brysten Duncan.
