Friday, April 9, 2010

The seventh annual Healthy Kids Day will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 at the Monett South Park. The event is sponsored by the Monett Area YMCA with support from local churches, organizations and civic groups.

Groups that will be sponsoring activities during Healthy Kids Day include: the Barry Barry-Lawrence County Ambulance; First Baptist Church; First United Methodist Church; Monett Community Church; Monett Fire Department; the Monett Library; Monett Police Department and New Site Baptist Church.

There will be games and entertainment including a puppet show and a live band. The children will also be treated to contests, games, inflatable games and face painting.

The event will provide children and parents with information on the many youth activities offered throughout the community and summer activities. In addition, there will be free snacks, jump ropes and T-shirts given to children throughout the event.

A one-mile fun run is also part of the day's activities. There is no charge to participate.

Healthy Kids Day is geared to children in kindergarten through fifth grades and their families, but all area residents are welcome to attend the free event. In case of rain, Healthy Kids Day activities will be held at the Monett YMCA, located at 201 Euclid Ave.

Healthy Kids Day is a national YMCA event. The Monett Area YMCA will be one of over 1,500 YMCAs across the United States to hold similar events on April 17.
