Shoppin' in the Shell to begin at SK Home and Business Show today and Saturday

Friday, April 9, 2010

The 23rd annual Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce Home and Business Show will be held in the Shell Knob School gymnasium on April 9 and 10.

Businesses from across southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas will present products and services during the free event. Indoor and outdoor exhibits will feature furniture, appliances, home construction and remodeling, gifts, home decor, boat lifts, tractors, golf carts and health, financial and pet services.

"New this year is information on environmentally safe and effective lawn fertilizers," said Sheila House, Shell Knob Chamber executive director, "a topic of interest to many as we make every attempt to keep lake and well water clean and safe."

Concessions will be available on-site during the show. Breakfast items will be sold on Saturday morning.

The Shell Knob Chamber will also kick off its 2010 Shoppin' in the Shell Shopping Spree promotion at the home and business show on Friday, April 9. The promotion gives residents and visitors an opportunity to win a $1,000 shopping spree redeemable at participating Shell Knob Chamber businesses.

"This promotion costs the merchant nothing," said House. "The cost of items sold to the certificate holder is reimbursed in full to the merchant up to the $1,000 prize. The winner gets their choice of merchandise, and the money stays in our local businesses."

The prize, which will cover the cost of retail and service purchases, can be used in whole or in part for any purchase with qualifying businesses. The certificate must be used by Dec. 15. Qualifying purchases could include: lodging at a local resort; groceries; hardware and garden supplies; beauty products; and medical services.

Over the last four years, winners have purchased a refrigerator, furniture, gifts, sports equipment, gas, gift certificates, groceries, medication, log siding, tires, haircuts and other items.

"Let's work together to promote the area, keep the money local and let the public know how much Shell Knob has to offer," said House.

Shoppin' in the Shell tickets, which will be available at the Shell Knob Home and Business Show and participating businesses, are $10 each. The promotion will benefit the Shell Knob Chamber and Senior Center Corporation.

Businesses interested in participating in the promotion should call the Shell Knob Chamber at 417-858-3300 or e-mail info@shellknob.com by March 15. Only responding business members will be included in the promotional project.
