M. Evelyn Stephens, age 91, passed away Wednesday, April 7th, at Laurel Baye Health Center in Williston, S.C.
She was born on Feb. 10th 1919 to the late Alva and Dovie Friend in Greenfield, where she spent most of her life. On Aug. 30, 1941 she married Floyd F. Stephens. They celebrated 52 years together before his death in 1994.
There were four children from this union, three who have preceded her in death, John, Janice and Terry.
Evelyn was an active member of the First Christian Church and C.W.F. in Greenfield for more than 50 years. Evelyn enjoyed teaching china painting. In 2003, Evelyn moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Williston, S.C. where she attended Williston United Methodist Church.
Surviving her are her daughter: Jill Fertig and husband, Bill of Williston, S.C.; daughter-in-law: Kay Temple Stephens of Linden, Texas; three grandchildren: Matthew Stephens and wife, Cindy of Greenfield; LeJill Washick and husband Jeff, of Wentworth; and Ryan Fertig of Monett; nine great-grandchildren: two brothers: Stanford Friend and wife Doris, of Pampa, Texas; Paul Friend and wife Barbara of Everton; and in-laws, Edith Friend, Amy and Eugene Allison.
