The promising Monett golf team was second in a field of 14 teams at the LedgeStone course in Reeds Spring on Thursday. The team shot 341, 17 strokes behind Branson.
Sophomore Jacob Fair again was the premiere performer. His 73 won the day.
"The hours they spent in the off-season have really paid off," said Cubs Coach Derrek Uhl.
Fair's time on the Oklahoma junior circuit last summer obviously did, giving Monett the chance to excel down the stretch.
A cluster of his teammates finished within a few strokes of each other. Junior Devin Steward shot an 87, senior Kennon Cox recorded a 90 and junior Travis Thompson scored a 91.
Next up is play at Mt. Vernon on April 6.
