Monett Cubs golf team scores home course win

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

The Monett High golf team won its first home meet Tuesday at the city's Windmill Ridge golf course, hosting Cassville, who placed second, and Seneca, who finished third, on a blustery spring day.

Sophomore sensation Jacob Fair was a final putt short of par but prevailed with a nine-hole score of 36. Senior Kennon Cox was second with a 41.

Other Cub tallies were: junior Devin Steward, 44; freshman Kyle Woods, 44; and sophomore Travis Thompson, 49.

Coach Derrek Uhl has high hopes for his squad this year, which finished third in the Big 8 Conference last year.

"We need three golfers to play well on the same day -- and they can play," he said.

The next competition is at the Reeds Spring tournament tomorrow.
