Plans are in place for the opening of the Monett Farmers Market for a second year.
The first day for business will be Saturday, May 29, according to organizer May Xee Xiong with the Southeast Asia America Farmers Organization, doing business as Monett Farmers Market,.This year the market will be open on both Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.
"We have 10 vendors coming, compared to seven last year," said Xiong. "There may be more if I get more applications in. We're expecting more produce, so we're opening on Wednesdays to give more of a chance for people to buy."
Wednesday hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday hours will be changing. The market will open an hour later at 8 a.m. and stay open an hour later until 1 p.m.
"The feedback we got last year was 7 a.m. was too early for a lot of people," said Xiong. "Some told us by the time they finished their morning chores and got cleaned up, we were gone. So we've changed the hours to hopefully be available for everyone.
"All the farmers have started seeding. Some had to cover up for the weekend, but everyone is getting ready," Xiong said.
Organizers plan to be back at the same location as last year, between Fourth and Fifth streets on Front Street. Xiong expressed appreciation to Glen Garrett for continuing to allow the market to use the grounds previously used as parking for the former Chapman Tire operation.
