Monett Cub boys hope to earn back-to-back Big 8 track titles

The Monett boys track team is returning a talented group of athletes this spring, and Coach Andrew Lemons has his eye on winning another Big 8 Conference championship.

"I believe we have a great opportunity to win the conference this year," said Coach Lemons. "We've got some real talented athletes coming back and an outstanding freshman class. I'm looking forward to a great year."

The Cubs have a huge group of lettermen returning from the 2009 season.

The group of seasoned athletes included: seniors Beau Bounous (shot and discus), Jason Obermann (shot and discus), Garrett Dutton (middle distance), Micah Miller (distance), Ryan Cody (sprinter), Josh Shaner, Uriel Rueda (mid-distance), Matt Hinkle (sprinter), Mauricio Trujillo and Christian Privett (sprinter); and juniors Chris Eimer (sprinter), Tristen Homfeldt (sprinter) and Juan Renteria (middle distance).

Other top prospects with experience are: sophomore Chris Renteria (distance), Kyle Fellwock, Ryne Johnson, Seth Spencer, Bill Townsend, Connor Kimzey and Jacob Childress.

Last year, the Monett boys track team won the Big 8 Conference title and were district runners-up.

Josh Honey serves as the boys assistant track coach.

The 2010 track season is set to open on Tuesday when Monett rravels to Neosho for a warm-up meet. Monett will host its annual Cub Relays varsity track meet on April 27.
