Purdy's White leads All-Ozarks 7 team

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Shelby White of the Purdy Lady Eagles was chosen as the Ozark 7 Conference Player of the Year in voting by the conference coaches. White, who enjoyed a stellar year, led her Purdy team to the conference crown with a victory over Verona in the final regular season game for both teams.

In an unusual split, the Ozark 7 coaches placed six players on the first team and four on the second team. Verona's "triplets" - Tristan Carrasquillo, Jenna Chadd, and Jessica Smith -- joined Destiny Stensrud, of Exeter, and Addy Roller and Audrey Patton, of Purdy, on the first team.

Second team All-Conference players included: Kirstie Ickes, of Southwest; Sonya Kilongkilong, of McAuley; Brooke Swadley, of Purdy; and Shelby Bowman, of Exeter.

Honorable mention went to: Shelby Scott, of Purdy; Beth Bigham, of Verona; Ashton Scott, of Exeter; Sally Currence, of Thomas Jefferson; and Michaela Mitchell, of Southwest.

The Ozark 7 Conference Coach of the Year is Ryan Yates, of Verona. Yates coached his squad to a second place finish in the Ozark 7 and guided them to a Class 1 district championship. The Lady Wildcats picked up a Class 1 regional win before losing in the sectional round, just one game shy of a trip to the Show-Me Showdown in Columbia.
