Joplin Regional Stockyards: Cow and Bull Auction Close for 3/17/10

   Compared to last Wednesday, slaughter cows sold 3.00-5.00 higher and
slaughter bulls sold 2.00-3.00 higher. Slaughter buyers reported a short
supply of slaughter cows available so we saw a sharp increase in slaughter
prices. With the stronger slaughter prices most older bred cows went to
slaughter and as a result most bred cows traded were 2-6 yrs of age.
Supply was moderate and demand very good for slaughter classes.

   Bred Cows:  Medium and Large 1-2  2 yrs to short and solid mouth 2nd
and 3rd stage 1095-1365 lbs most 650.00-860.00, several better quality
blacks 875.00-960.00, 1st stage 975-1175 lbs 585.00-725.00. Large 1-2
4-5 yrs 3rd stage pkg. 1425 lbs 950.00, 1st stage pkg. 4 yr blacks 1400
lbs 825.00. Medium and Large 2  4-5 yrs 2nd and 3rd stage 995-1175 lbs
500.00-700.00, 1st stage 1060 lb indiv. 475.00. Medium 1-2  2-7 yrs 2nd

   Cow/Calf Pairs:  Medium and Large 1-2  2-7 yrs 1000-1340 lb cows w/
babies to 350 lb calves most 900.00-1125.00, couple pkgs. black and black
white face w/225-365 lb calves and all cows rebred 1200.00-1225.00;
broken mouth pkg. black 1250 lb cows w/200-350 lb calves and several
rebred 875.00. Medium and Large 2  5 yr pkg. 1075 lb cows w/baby calves
800.00. Medium 1-2  3-7 yrs 1000-1045 lb cows w/150-400 lb calves and
some rebred 725.00-850.00; broken mouth 1050 lb cow w/160 lb calf 660.00.
