Eighth graders got to learn about different career choices while visiting the Southwest Area Career Center during the Nontraditional Upward Program. Above, Alysa Haverly, of Pierce City, battallion commander for the Junior ROTC, ran the visitors through the pallet bridge exercise, where the group had to build a bridge from pieces of wood, and everyone had to cross successfully. The exercise taught teamwork and critical thinking. If someone fell off, all the group had to do push-ups and start over. The visitors also got to slide down the zip line on the rappelling tower.
