The first round of the Class 2 District 10 girls basketball tournament at Sarcoxie saw Purdy score 84 points to Miller's 82. Too bad the teams didn't play each other.
Career scoring leader Hannah Wilkerson watched Purdy destroy Marionville and then helped her Miller Lady Cardinals replicate that feat, dismantling host Sarcoxie in an 82-39 snoozer.
Wilkerson scored 37 points in just three quarters, using her trademark inside game for most of her baskets. There were some fadeaway jump shots, and some treys, but mostly it was just Hannah doing the blue-collar work in the paint.
Her fourth bucket of the night was a fast break layup that gave Miller a 16-6 lead with 4:05 left in the first quarter. Wilkerson finished the first period with 14 points on two free throws, two jump shots and four baskets at the rim. She also had three assists in the period, including a baseball-toss to Betsy Epps for a fast break layup.
Sarcoxie trailed 26-12 at the end of the first quarter. The following quarter was also no picnic for the Lady Bears as Miller poured on another 31 points and led 57-19 at halftime. It could have been worse, as Wilkerson's long attempt at the buzzer swished in but was waved off by the zebras.
The Lady Cardinals built a 75-30 lead at the final break, and the subs took the floor for the final running-clock eight minutes.
Miller advances to play at 7:30 p.m. tonight against College Heights, a 51-36 winner of the Monday late game against McAuley Catholic.
Miller scorers: Hannah Wilkerson 37; Betsy Epps 13; Kaitlin Johnson 9; Jessica McAdams 9; Nicole Adams 6; Jessica Cook 4; Brooke Hill 2; and Anna Smith 2.
Sarcoxie scorers: Keisha Height 16; Kristie Downing 11; Chelsea Coleman 6; Courtney Coleman 4; Ashton Phillips 1; and Tasha Height 1.
