Purdy jumped all over Marionville with a 46-14 opening half and cruised to an 84-26 victory in their Class 2 District 10 girls basketball tournament game at Sarcoxie on Monday night. Junior guard Brooke Swadley scored 21 points in just three quarters of work to pace the Lady Eagles.
Swadley scored 9 of her game-leading total in the first period, with Addy Roller pouring in 8 more to stake Purdy to a 24-7 lead at the end of that period. The Lady Eagles then doused the Lady Comets with a 22-2 run that was the entire second quarter.
Shelby White scored 13 points in a 31-4 third quarter, and Purdy opened a 77-13 lead at the final break.
Purdy's Grant Young enjoyed the luxury of resting his starting five through much of the third quarter and all of the fourth, and his JV'ers marked time in the lopsided win. Marionville, a very young team with only one junior and one senior on its nine-girl roster, was simply overmatched against state-ranked Purdy.
"It was a good win for us," said Young. "Now we'll go back and get a new game plan ready for Wednesday's game."
Purdy will face the Jasper Lady Eagles and their 6'0" shotblocker Rachel Bausinger at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Jasper defeated Greenfield 42-32 on Monday night.
Purdy scorers: Brooke Swadley 21; Addy Roller 19; Shelby White 16; Audrey Patton 8; Shelby Scott 6; Rachel Neill 4; Mattie White 4; Kristyn Cornman 3; and Chelsea Mareth 3.
Marionville scorers: Aubree Brown 7; Brooke Mitchell 6; Amy Hicks 4; Macy Miller 4; Brooke Nelson 3; and Jessica Duda 2.
