The Purdy Lady Eagles will face off with the Verona Lady Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 26 in a game that will finally decide the Ozark 7 Conference champion. Fittingly, it comes on the final day of the regular season.
|Three Ozark 7 schools -- Verona, Purdy and Exeter -- slugged it out through the conference schedule from start to finish. The defending conference champion Exeter Lady Tigers were finally eliminated from consideration last Thursday when they dropped a 69-57 contest at Purdy. That gave Exeter two conference losses, while Purdy and Verona both have just one.|
Verona lost a home game to Exeter early in the year, and Purdy was throttled when they visited Verona. Barring a historic upset before Friday's game, the scenario ensures that there will be an outright conference champion.
|Some would argue that the conference title is merely for bragging rights, and that the teams should be focusing on a run at a district title and more. That may be true, but bragging rights and a conference championship trophy are always a top priority in the Ozark 7.|
There will be "a take no prisoners" mentality on both benches when the teams collide on Friday night at Purdy.
On Friday night, the jayvee boys will play first followed by the varsity boys game. The varsity girls game will be the last game of the night.
