|The Monett Lady Cubs rode the hot hand of Hunter Glouse to a 55-46 victory over Aurora in Monday night action of the Class 4 District 11 basketball tournament at Republic. Glouse scored 16 points, and three other Lady Cubs reached double figures, to lead the Lady Cubs into a Wednesday night game against top-seeded McDonald County.|
|Monett played within a point of Aurora in the opening quarter, as Madison Carlin poured in 7 points. Amanda McKinney gave Monett a brief 14-13 lead, sinking a trey with just :35 left in the period. But Aurora's Rachel Crockett got loose for an inside basket, and the Lady Houn's took a 15-14 lead at the first break.|
|Aurora streaked to a 24-19 lead in the second quarter and appeared ready to pull away. Monett's McKinney banked home a runner in the lane at 1:02, and then Carlin swished a trey from the left corner to earn a 24-24 tie at halftime.|
|The teams returned from intermission and traded baskets to a 28-28 tie. Then Monett launched a 7-0 run, fueled by a McKinney trey and an inside hook by Jennifer Frazier. The Lady Cubs nabbed every rebound and every loose ball as they gained a 35-28 advantage.|
|Aurora recovered to score the final two baskets of the period, but Monett still led by 35-32 at the final break.|
|The first three minutes of the last period saw the lead swing from 3 to 1 to 4 and then back to 2, but always in Monett's favor. Then Glouse exploded with back-to-back three-point plays, and the final free throw of the sequence gave Monett a 50-40 lead with 4:14 to play.|
|Glouse finished with 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, and the Lady Cubs finished Aurora's season with the 55-46 final.|
Coach Derrek Uhl pointed to Monett's exceptional free throw shooting as a factor in the win. The Lady Cubs were 16 of 22 from the line, including 10 for 13 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.
|Monett scorers were: Hunter Glouse 16, Madison Carlin 15, Jennifer Frazier 12, Amanda McKinney 10 and Danielle Neill 2.|
Glouse and Frazier had nine rebounds each in the win while Frazier contributed two steals and McKinney tallied four assists.
|Monett (9-14) will play McDonald County tonight at 6 p.m. in the district semi-finals.|
