District pairings announced

The district tournament brackets for Class 1, 2 and 3 basketball have been announced by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

Class 1

Area schools competing in the Class 1, District 6 tournament at Aurora include Exeter and Verona.
In the boys bracket, fifth-seeded Exeter will play the fourth seed, Walnut Grove, at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2. Verona, the seventh seed, tackles second-seeded Niangua that same night in the 6 p.m. game. Winners advance to play on Thursday night, and the boys championship game will be played Friday, March 5 at 7:30 PM.
In the girls bracket, Verona and Exeter received the #1 and #2 seeds, and the first-round byes that go with those positions. The Verona Lady Wildcats will play on Wednesday, March 3 at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Chadwick/Everton game. The Exeter Lady Tigers will play at 7:30 p.m. that same night against the Walnut Grove/Hurley winner.
The girls championship game will be on Friday, March 5 at 6 p.m.

Class 2

The Class 2 District 10 Tournament will be played at Sarcoxie. With nine teams in the district, both the boys and girls brackets will have a play-in game on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Then on Tuesday, March 2, top-seeded Miller heads up the boys bracket, playing the winner of that Saturday game at 4 p.m. The fifth-seeded Wheaton Bulldogs take on fourth-seeded Jasper at 5:30 p.m. Marionville plays McAuley at 7 p.m. and third-seed Greenfield plays sixth-seeded Purdy at 8:30 p.m.
Winners face off at 6 and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, and the championship game will be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.
The girls side of the bracket is drawing the most attention of the area tournaments. The Wheaton Lady Bulldogs tackle Marionville in the play-in game on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. The winner must face the top-seeded Purdy Lady Eagles at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 1.
The second-seeded Miller Lady Cardinals and Hannah Wilkerson play the host team Sarcoxie at 7 p.m. that same evening.
The Purdy/Wheaton winner will play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3 against the Greenfield/Jasper winner, and the Miller/Sarcoxie winner will play at 7:30 that night against the College Heights-McAuley winner.
The girls championship game will be played at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 5.

Class 3

The Class 3 District 12 Tournament at Mt. Vernon features a trio of top boys teams, and the voting for the top seeds was intense.
Two teams from the Big 8 Conference received the #1 and #2 seeds: host Mt. Vernon and Seneca. The Mountaineers will play eighth-seeded Ash Grove on Tuesday, March 2 at 4:30 p.m. That game will be followed by contests between fourth-seed Pierce City and fifth-seed East Newton, and between Seneca and seventh-seeded Lamar.
Southwest, the #3 seed, plays against Diamond in the late game at 9 p.m.
Thursday's game will match up the four winners, and the championship game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.
The girls side of the bracket features Mt. Vernon, Seneca and East Newton as the highest seeds. Monday, March 1 action pits Mt. Vernon against Lamar at 4:30 p.m., followed by Ash Grove vs. Pierce City, Seneca vs. Southwest and East Newton vs. Diamond.
The winners play on Thursday, March 4 at 6 and 7:30 p.m., and the championship game will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.
