Verona High School is celebrating homecoming this week. "Lovin' Basketball" is the theme for this year's event. Coronation of the homecoming queen will take place on Friday as the Wildcats take on the Trojans from Southwest.

Vying for the title of queen are two seniors: Beth Bigham, daughter of Bill and Debbie Bigham, and Jori Dodson, daughter of Lori Dodson and Rick Dodson.

Bigham is a member of FFA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Science Club, Science Olympiad and National Honor Society. She plays basketball and volleyball. Her favorite quote is, "There is no 'I' in team."

Dodson competes in basketball and volleyball and participates in FFA and FBLA. Her favorite quote is, "Just keep swimming."

Other members of the royal court are: junior attendant Lynnsey Youngberg, daughter of Lynn Youngberg Debra Weldy; sophomore Jessica Smith, daughter of Steve and Barb Smith; and freshman Taylor Pinkly, daughter of Wayne and Robin Pinkly.

Several events have been planned as part of homecoming. Tuesday was "Hat Day," when students were encouraged to show off their style with exceptional headware. Wednesday was dubbed "Decade Day," where students wore apparel not seen around Verona High School in many years.

Thursday is "Superhero Day" when students get to dress up as their favorite caped crusader. Friday is "Spirit Day" when students will wear school colors to show off their Wildcat Pride.

A pep assembly will be held to introduce the royal court during seventh hour on Friday. Coronation ceremonies will be held after the junior varsity game and before the boys varsity game at around 6:15 p.m. The girls varsity game will follow the boys game. A dance in the high school multi-purpose room will follow the basketball action.
