Absentee voting begins on Feb. 23

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Absentee ballots for the April 6 general municipal election will be available on Feb. 23. Ballots can be requested from the Lawrence County and the Barry County clerks in Mt. Vernon and Cassville.

The last day to register to vote for the election is March 10.

Missouri law requires that requests for absentee ballots be received by 5 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the election, which will be March 31. If the ballot is to be mailed, the request must be accompanied with the voter's name, physical address, date of birth, last four digits of the Social Security Number, reason for voting absentee and the voter's signature.

Requests for applications by guardians or relatives must be made in person at the county clerk's office.

Courthouse offices will be open for absentee voting on Saturday, April 3. The Lawrence County clerk's office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. The Barry County clerk's office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.

The deadline for absentee voting in person at the clerk's offices is 5 p.m. on the day before the election, which is April 5.
