Two Mt. Vernon men were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 37 at Butterfield yesterday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Melvin Owens, 71, was life flighted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries, and Frank Owens, 67, was taken by ambulance to Cox Monett Hospital with moderate injuries.
The two men were hurt when their pickup, driven by Melvin Owens, swerved to miss a van driven by Jose Rivera, which crossed in front of them. The Owens pickup struck the Rivera van in the front bumper. Rivera was not injured in the crash, which occurred at 3:55 p.m.

* A Purdy woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Farm Road 1090 south of Monett on Tuesday. Ellen L. Doherty, 23, was taken to St. John's Hospital in Springfield where she was treated for minor injuries. The crash occurred at 11:50 a.m. when Peter A. Cowles, 26, of Purdy, experienced a medical problem that caused him to run his 1997 Ford Ranger off the road and into a utility pole.
* A Cassville woman received minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 76 three miles west of Exeter on Monday morning. Margie Aeverman, 60, was treated at St. John's Hospital-Cassville after the car she was driving went off the roadway and struck a tree. The crash occurred at 7:45 a.m.
