Cubs qualify three wrestlers for state meet

Monett's Ethan Davis remained unbeaten and claimed an individual championship at the Class 2, District 3 tournament held at Monett High School this past weekend. Wrestling at 140 pounds, Davis now advances to the state meet, which will be held this weekend in Columbia, where he hopes to keep his undefeated streak alive.

Matt Shiffner, at 171 pounds, and Chris Renteria, at 125 pounds, also earned trips to the state wrestling meet with their top performances at districts. Shiffner finished in third place, and Renteria was fourth.

Monett was ninth overall in the team standings with 71 points. Pleasant Hill was the district champion with a team score of 142 points followed by Reeds Spring in second place with 139 points.

Other teams competing at the district meet included Odessa, Bolivar, Harrisonville, Carl Junction, Nevada, Logan-Rogersville, Grain Valley, Clinton, Buffalo, Osage and Marshfield.
