The Verona girls picked up their sixth Ozark 7 victory Monday night by defeating Thomas Jefferson 57-20.
The Lady Wildcats overpowered the Lady Cavaliers in the first quarter to gain an early 31-7 advantage. A host of Verona players got in on the scoring action as Coach Ryan Yates substituted freely throughout the lopsided game.
Jessica Smith had a game-leading 21 points along with her four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jenna Chadd added 18 points, seven assists, six steals and two rebounds, and Tristan Carrasquillo was credited with 17 points, three rebounds, six steals and six assists.
Other Lady Wildcat scorers were: Taylor Pinkly, 9; Beth Bigham, 6; Jordyn Butler, 4; and Jori Dodson and Kelsei Krueger, 2 each. Whitney Shue added two rebounds, and Bigham led her team in blocks with two.
On Tuesday night, the Verona ladies took down Wheaton 63-18. Scoring for the Lady Wildcats were: Chadd, 19; Carrasquillo, 18; Bigham, 12; Smith, 12; and Dodson, 2.
Wheaton was led by Mica Tichenor's 7 points.
The Verona girls enjoy a 18-4 record along with their 7-1 conference mark. On Thursday night, Verona will face off against Exeter in an important Ozark 7 game.
Verona boys fall to TJ and Wheaton
The Wildcats were held in check by a dominant Thomas Jefferson squad. Verona was held to under 10 points each of the four quarters, trailing 25-6 at halftime, on the way to a 57-20 loss.
Verona's top scorer was Cody Ernsberger with 6 points. Others who scored for the Wildcats were: Ascencion Estrada, 4; Wesley Kissinger and Nick Washam, 3 each; and Seth Losack and Clifford Williams, 2 each.
Last night, the Verona boys fell to Wheaton 61-29. Wildcat scorers were: Kissinger, 13; Losack, 6; Williams, 6; Washam, 2; and Larry Patterson, 2.
Verona is scheduled to travel to Exeter on Friday night for a conference game.
