The Pierce City Eagles earned an exciting 62-60 overtime victory over visiting Lockwood on Friday night before a big home crowd that had gathered for basketball homecoming festivities.
After the teams traded the lead back and forth in the first two quarters, the game was locked at 25-25 going into halftime. In the second half, Lockwood had a narrow 35-33 lead at the end of the third. Pierce City was able to outscore their visitors 13-11 in the final stanza to tie up the game and send it into overtime.
It took two more overtime periods until the game was decided. Both teams scored 6 points in the first overtime, and then the Eagles were able to grab the upperhand in the second overtime, scoring 10 points to Lockwood's 8 for the 62-60 win.
Robert Baldwin paced the Eagles with 24 points. Wayne Joe Sooter and Cedric O'Hara also were in double digits, scoring 13 and 11 points respectively.
Others scoring for Pierce City were: Derek Turner and Chance Chapman, 5 each; and Cody Cox and Cody Fitchpatrick, 2 each.
Lockwood's Blake Abbiatti led his squad, matching Baldwin's output of 24 points.
The Eagles are now 7-11 for the season and 2-1 in the Spring River Valley Conference.
In the junior varsity game, Pierce City dominated Lockwood 44-12.
