Pierce City girls fall to Patriots

Pierce City opened with a fierce 14-6 first quarter lead against East Newton on Thursday night, but the scoring combination of Katy Cooper and Lindsey Bragg keyed a 45-38 comeback victory for the Lady Patriots. Cooper, the Pitt State signee at post, led all scorers with 21, and Bragg cashed in 14 as East Newton advanced to the championship game of the McAuley Catholic Warrior Classic in Joplin.
Megan Golubski led Pierce City with 11 points, and her team led at every break before falling in the fourth quarter. After trailing by 10 at halftime, 26-16, East Newton's defense shut down Pierce City, limiting the Lady Eagles to just 5 points in the third period and 7 in the fourth.
Pierce City scorers: Megan Golubski, 11; Taylor Mettlach, 10; Kaelyn Osborn, 8; Emily Ashley, 7; and Rachel Miller, 2.
East Newton scorers: Katy Cooper, 21; Lindsey Bragg, 14; Raeschele Dollar, 4; Haley Heilig, 2; Shelbey Thomlinson, 2; and Whitney Thomlinson, 2.

Purdy downs Southwest in Ozark 7 contest

The Purdy Lady Eagles overwhelmed Southwest 78-25 last night behind Brooke Swadley's 23 points and Shelby White's 22.

Purdy dominated the Lady Trojans in almost every quarter, limiting Southwest to only 2 points in both the first and fourth quarters.

Lady Eagle scorers were: Swadley, 23; Shelby White, 22; Audrey Patton, 15; Brittany Mareth, 7; Kristyn Cornman, Rachael Neill and Shelby Scott, 3 each; and Mattie White, 2.

Southwest was led by Michaela Mitchell's 12 points.
