Cub grapplers fall to Jopliin

In a dual meet last night, host Monett tied Joplin 33-33, but the guests won on criteria, posting more six-point victories than the Cubs.

Monett wrestlers won seven of the 14 matches. The Cubs were forced to forfeit three matches.

Clayton Patton, at 152 pounds, won by major decision over Aiden Shippley 15-5. Carter Huffmaster, at 135 pounds, won by major decision over Rayle Guthrie 10-1, and Chris Renteria, at 125 won by major decision over Brad White 21-7.

Marcus Enloe, at 140 pounds, won by decision over Billy Nguyen 10-4, and Levi Neely, at 103 pounds, won by forfeit.

Winning by fall for Monett were: Ethan Davis, at 145 pounds, over John Cole; and Ty Irwin, at 171 pounds, over Landon Taylor.

Losing by fall for the Cubs were: Nicky Roberts, at 112 pounds, to Aaron Brown; Kurran Blamey, at 160 pounds, to Dusty Hill; and Matt Schiffner, at 189 pounds, to Jaxon Roberts. Juan Renteria, at 130 pounds, lost by decision to Brent Eagles 9-4.

JV results were as follows: Corey Skipper, at 112 pounds, lost by fall to Mason Johnson; Bryan Beckwith, at 112 pounds, lost by fall to Mason Johnson; Devon Overall, at 135 pounds, won by decision over Devin Plassman; Joey Albrecht, at 140 pounds, lost by fall to Donny Martin; and Christian Romero, at 215 pounds, lost by fall to Michael Oyler.

Monett wrestlers will compete in the Diamond Duel Tournament on Saturday. The meet starts at 9 a.m.
