The Monett Cubs wrestling team fell to state-ranked Bolivar last night. The Cubs earned 29 points in the dual meet, winning five matches.
"We wrestled very well against a very good Bolivar team," said Coach Daryl Bradley. "I liked the fact that we battled in every match. We also revenged some early losses."
Winning by decision for the Cubs were Juan Renteria, at 130 pounds, over Jesse Sherman 12-11, and Marcus Enloe, at 140 pounds, over Jacob Miles 8-1.
Carter Huffmaster, at 135 pounds, won by fall over Corey Barnes, and Ethan Davis, at 145 pounds, won by technical foul over Aaron Allen. Davis' win improves his season record to a very impressive 32-0.
Nicky Roberts, at 112 pounds, won by forfeit.
Losing by fall for the Cubs were: Levi Neely, at 103 pounds, to Sam Hughes; Chris Renteria, at 125 pounds, to Eric Hughes; Kurran Blamey, at 152 pounds, to Jarred Harrell; and Ty Irwin, at 189 pounds, to Dalton Sharp.
The Cubs also lost four matches to forfeit.
In jayvee action against Bolivar, Devon Overall, at 135 pounds, won by fall over Conteras, and Clayton Patton, at 145 pounds, won by fall over Boyce and Ward.
JV wrestlers who lost by fall were: Bryan Beckwith, at 103 pounds, to Alex Neal; Corey Skipper, at 103 pounds, to Alex Neal; Joey Albrecht, at 140 pounds, to Albham; and Christian Romero, at 215 pounds, to Wesmorland.
"We are showing progress day in and day out," said Coach Bradley. "I look forward to wrestling Joplin on Thursday."
This Thursday's match against Joplin will be Senior Night. The Cubs' lone senior Ty Irwin and senior manager Whitney Dahlstrom will both be recognized.
