The coronation assembly on Friday was cancelled, but Queen Hayley LaGarce, at center, was ready for the big event Friday morning, standing before a painting of the "Midnight Masquerade" theme in the high school commons. Basketball co-captains Spenser Witt, at left, and Kennon Cox, at right, will hold a rock-paper-scissors contest for the right to crown the queen. The coronation will now take place during the afternoon assembly on Feb. 19 and at the final game of the regular season that night against East Newton. [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff]
Homecoming festivities for Monett High School changed Friday and again Saturday morning due to winter weather.
The Cubs will take on the Lamar Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 30, instead of on Friday as originally scheduled. Principal David Steward announced the freshman game will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with the junior varsity game at 5:15 p.m.
Steward said rescheduling the Lamar game was not an option so basketball action will continue. The varsity game will start around 6:30 p.m.
With concern about roads refreezing later tonight, Steward said it was better to reset the coronation and dance for Feb. 19, the last game of the regular season when the Cubs will host East Newton.
Classes adjourned at midday on Friday as snow continued to fall heavily into the night.
