In girls high school basketball action last night, Pierce City easily over College Heights and Purdy surged in overtime for a victory over Miller.
The Pierce City Lady Eagles took a 21-8 first quarter lead against College Heights and never looked back, cruising to a 53-39 win. Pierce City was up 40-21 going into the fourth quarter.
Kaelyn Osborn led the Eagles with 15 points. Taylor Mettlach had 13 and Megan Golubski had 12. Also scoring were Abby Ashley and Rachel Miller with four each, Mattie Parrigon and Becca Hatfield with two each, and Emily Ashley with one point.
Pierce City won the junior varsity game 49-5.
The Purdy High School Lady Eagles and the Miller Lady Cardinals matched basket for basket in the first half, after which Purdy pulled away for a 58-51 lead going into the fourth quarter. Miller gained a 20-13 edge in the final stanza to tie the game. In overtime Purdy pulled ahead 16-6 to secure the 87-77 victory.
Scoring for Purdy was Audrey Patton with 25 points, Shelby White with 24, Brooke Swadley with 19, Addy Roller with 16 and Shelby Scott with three.
The Verona Lady Wildcats made a final quarter charge but lost to Clever 44-40. Verona led 20-17 at halftime but fell cold as Clever went on a 15-3 tear in the third quarter. The Lady Wildcats fought back for a 17-12 advantage in the fourth quarter but could not close the gap.
Verona, now 14-4, was led in scoring by Jessica Smith with 18 and Tristan Carrasquillo with 13, Jenna Chadd had eight and Beth Bigham had one point. Verona will play Purdy at home on Tuesday.
In other bi-county girls games, Mt. Vernon beat Seneca 48-31. Exeter overwhelmed Wheaton 56-18.
