Monett wrestlers fell to Ozark 55-16 and then beat Springfield Central 36-34 in a triangular meet held yesterday.
"We are continuing to get better and better each week," said Coach Daryl Bradley. "It was nice to get a win finally. I know the kids are doing their best without a full line up. I am looking forward to the district tournament in the next couple of weeks."
The Cubs won three of the 14 matches against Ozark.
Chris Renteria, at 125 pounds, won 13-4 over Grant Godfrey. Juan Renteria, at 130 pounds, won by fall over Tyler Ussery, and Ethan Davis, at 140 pounds, also won by fall over Dylan May.
Losing by decision for the Cubs were: Levi Neely, 103 pounds, to Colton Howell; Carter Huffmaster, 135 pounds, to Dustin McClintock 5-2; Marcus Enloe, 145 pounds, to Josh Shockney 6-3; Kurran Blamey, 160 pounds, to Grant Campbell 12-1; and Matt Schiffner, 171 pounds, to Tim Allen 5-3. Ty Irwin, 189 pounds. Trent Hosick, at 189 pounds, lost by fall to Trent Hosick.
Monett lost four matches to forfeit against Ozark.
In jayvee action against Ozark, Corey Skipper lost to Austin Wurtz and Sawyer Alderson in two matches, Joey Albrecht lost by fall to Colton Hovey and Cade Liles lost to Tevon Luster. Jayvee winners were: Clayton Patton over Blake Dove and Devon Overall over Tanner Eli.
The Cubs won seven of the 13 matches against Springfield Central.
Monett grapplers logging wins by decision were: Chris Renteria, 125 pounds, over Jeff Held 14-4; Juan Renteria, 130 pounds, over Jake Harding 14-3; and Huffmaster, 135 pounds, over Caleb Templeton 16-4.
Winning by fall were: Davis, 140 pounds, over Tanner Wood; Enloe, 145 pounds, over David Stat; Blamey, 160 pounds, over Brayden Dillard; and Schiffner, 171 pounds, over Joe Strong.
Roberts, 112 pounds, lost by decision to George Alterson 10-2. Losing by fall were: Neely, 103 pounds, to Buddy Mullins; Cade Liles, 152 pounds, to Quest Raegan; Irwin, 189 pounds, to Steven Cody; and Christian Romero, 215 pounds, to Alex Hernandez.
The Cubs forfeited only one match to Central.
Jayvee winners against Central were Patton over Kyle Richardson and Overall over Kevin King. Skipper lost by fall to Alex Ledford.
Monett is now 1-5 on the season. The varsity Cubs will compete in the Seneca Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
