The Monett Lady Cubs hosted Willard on Monday night and suffered a 67-44 loss.
Monett kept pace with Willard in the first quarter, trailing by only 4 points at 16-12. In the second quarter, the Lady Cubs were outscored 19 to 9 and faced a 25-21 half-time deficit that ended up being too much to overcome.
Monett rallied after the break and came back in the third quarter to score 15 points to Willard's 12. In the final stanza, the Lady Tigers ramped up their game, scoring 20 points while limiting the Lady Cubs to 8 and earning the non-conference win.
Madison Carlin was Monett's top scorer with 14 points while Hunter Glouse and Jenny Frazier added 12 points apiece. Other Lady Cub scorers were Aubrey Lemaster with 4 and Amanda McKinney with 2.
In the junior varsity contest, Monett lost 41-34. Anna Cloud and Caroline McKinney each scored 11 while Cheryl Barnes and Jessica Harper added 3 points each, and Raigan Ratliff, Jessica Schmidt and Danielle Neill contributed 2 points apiece.
The varsity Lady Cubs are now 7-10 for the season, and the JV team's record stands at 3-5.
The Lady Cubs will travel to Southwest High School in Washburn on Thursday night for a non-conference tilt.
