The Pierce City Eagles finished seventh in the Stockton boys tournament, downing Lamar 80-76 on Saturday.
The Eagles were ahead 47-40 at half and despite being outscored 13 to 21 in the third quarter were able to keep control of the game and come away with the win.
Robert Baldwin was on fire from the floor, scoring 33 points to lead Pierce City. Also scoring in double digits for the Eagles were Cedric O'Hara with 16 and Derrick Turner with 12. Other Pierce City scorers included: Cody Cox, 9; Chance Chapman, 8; and Cody Fitchpatrick 2.
Lamar was led by Drew Buckner with 26 points.
On Friday night, the Eagles suffered a tournament loss to a strong Greenfield team, 63-48.
Pierce City was down 35-17 by halftime and could never forge a comeback. Scoring for the Eagles in that game were: Baldwin, 13; Turner, 10; O'Hara, 9; Cox, 8; Chapman, 6; and Zach Crouch, 2.
Verona boys fall to Chadwick
The Verona Wildcats were overpowered by Chadwick 58-34 in the Spokane Boys tournament on Saturday.
By halftime, Verona trailed 25-15 in a low-scoring first half. In the third quarter, the Wildcats scored 13 points to Chadwick's 14 to put the score at 39-28 but the Cardinals roared back with 19 points and limited Verona to 6 to put the game away.
Verona was led by Wesley Kissinger with 8 points. Others scoring for the Wildcats were Ascencion Estrada 6, Nick Washam, Cody Earnsburger and Clifford Williams with 5 each, Seth Losack with 3 and Larry Patterson with 2.
